Information from Mr Jeff HUBBARD : BUCK Quality control for M9 1993 Marine :

BUCK made 360 prototypes for the United States Marines
Variation 1 : 175 made with long tang riveted (issued)
Variation

Variation 3 : 175 with short tang threaded sleeve (issued)

Most were destroyed during the testing

Blade : Black Oxide 425 M Stainless Steel 57 plus RC hardness
Handle : ZYTEL

The guard was purposely assembled upside down with the bottle openers nearly covered up by the handle.

No SCREWDRIVER TIP on the M9 USMC MARINES PROTOTYPE 1993 CUTTER PLATE

2nd variation : 10 made

From the Richard NEYMAN book : M9 BAYONET THE AUTHORIZED HISTORY

I saw two times an USMC / 1993 model with the grey color blade,
On ebay, these
bayonets are re-finish NOT THE ORIGINAL FINISH
Looks like blades were sharpened and refinished by parkerization or maybe glass-bead to dull metal, or matte steel finish
.
No historical interest : last photo
